Student Ambassador Program

A unique, customized program for secondary school students in New Delhi.

Credible and highly respected air pollution scientists and air pollution analysts will be part of the teaching panel. Two high school students from each school are chosen based on their 500 word essay submission on “Why I care about the air, how air pollution impacts life and what I’d like to learn about the air we breathe.”

More Information On The Program

In October 2016, we launched an intensive, first-of- its-kind program: The Care for Air Student Ambassador Program. This unique, customized program was initially offered to secondary school students as a 12 hour module, over 4 Saturdays (Oct 1, Oct 22, Nov 5, Nov 12, 2016) in New Delhi. The Fall 2016 Student Ambassador Program (SAP) has been created in-house by the Care For Air team and was co-led Bhargav Krishna, from the Public Health Foundation of India (technical content) and Michelle Cloud (pedagogy).

Credible and highly respected air pollution scientists and air pollution analysts are part of the teaching panel. Our organisation is supported by experts in this field such as TED Fellow, Dr Sarath Guttikunda and Dr Joshua Apte from the department of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

High school students applying for this unique, highly specialized program learn about the causes of air pollution, how pollution travels, the impact of weather and other factors, its impact on human health, the current state of pollution in Delhi and the policy and regulations around it. Students also get laboratory time to learn the science of air pollution measurement and monitoring  from among the best in this field.

Two students from each school are chosen based on their 500 word essay submission on “Why I care about the air, how air pollution impacts life and what I’d like to learn about the air we breathe.”

Upon completion of the course, they will be certified as Care for Air Student Ambassadors and receive a certificate. They will have the opportunity to share their learnings and personal insights on the official Care for Air web site and blog through the duration of the program, and are welcome to continue contributing after certification too. Through this program, we hope to trigger greater passion for our environment among our youth and create a cohort of more aware and environmentally conscious young people, in whatever professions they go on to choose.
